The Role

The training and development manager is responsible for the supervision, coaching and the supporting of a designated allocation of advisers and investment managers within Fairstone, which is achieved by the monitoring of specific KPI’s and management of adviser competence.

Training and development managers will work closely not only with the senior training and development manager and head of training and development, but also with the rest of the training and development team, wider compliance team, and business quality function, to ensure consistency of the service delivered to the advisers and investment managers.

  • Undertake both remote and face to face compliance and supervision coaching with advisers in line with the firm’s business practice manual, directives, and training & development scheme.
  • Work closely with newly onboarded firms to ensure smooth transition to Fairstone liaising with the onboarding team.
  • Support the development of adviser competence through the identification of training needs of new and existing colleagues by liaising with business quality team and the recording of root cause analysis.
  • Assess advisers training needs and document through the training needs analysis document.
  • Provide regular MI to the senior training and development manager/ head of training and development in relation to workflow levels.
  • Create and manage support and training plans for advisers with training needs.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of training and development programmes based on the needs of the organisation and the individual as instructed by the business standards director.
  • Assist the head of training and development to ensure that statutory training requirements are met.
  • Provide updates on trainee progression, general attitude and adherence to company policies and procedures, including thorough documentation on the progression towards CAS.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor trainee advisers (or those deemed as non-competent).
  • Completion of through and detailed 121 meeting notes to highlight any issues and next steps.
  • Undertake any further duties determined as reasonable and necessary in fulfilment of role.
  • Define and provide evidence (record keeping) of competence for all authorised advisers, both attaining & maintaining competence.
  • Assist on adhoc projects as and when required.
  • Recommend improvements in process and changes that drive efficiencies without materially impacting risk profile. Objective will be measured by proposals put forward and agreed by the head of training and development and subsequently the group compliance director.
  • Be mindful in the design and execution of T&D processes the requirements of the Consumer Duty obligations.
  • Level 4 Diploma / equivalent desired.


  • Involvement in the continuous improvement of the Fairstone training and development scheme.
  • Identification of root cause issues through communications/relationship building with the wider business.
  • Effective management of any areas of concern – i.e., reviews over 90 days.
  • Work effectively with the wider compliance team such as the regional compliance managers and wider compliance team.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal departments and national / partnership teams.
  • Attend internal meetings and effectively represent the training and development team where necessary.
  • Seek out improved process where relevant and share as appropriate for continuity across the team.
